Stanford Medical Informatics has the mission to disseminate its research
results as broadly as possible and to reach out to the scientific community.
One important way in which we bring the community into our research enterprise
is through our corporate affiliates programs. As outlined elsewhere in
these pages, SMI runs an active Biomedical Informatics
Affiliates Program for companies who seek the latest information on
SMI's applied research on the use of information technology to advance
clinical care, biomedical research, and public health. SMI also has a
Protégé
Education & Development Program to enable close interaction between
the Protégé development team and companies interested in
ontology management, intelligent systems, and Semantic Web applications.
Both these programs lead to close working relationships between workers
in industry and scientists at SMI.
SMI also conducts "short courses" to benefit our greater community.
SMI conducts an annual Medical
Informatics Short Course and frequently offers short courses in the
use of our Protégé technology.
Each year, through the Protégé Resource, SMI organizes
a conference for the Protégé user community. The most
recent Protégé Conference was held on the campus of
the National Institutes of Health in July, 2004. The next Protégé
Conference will take place in Madrid, July 18-21, 2005.
